Pennsylvania Ranked 8th Safest State For Kids Online
Pennsylvania ranks among the states safest in the nation for kids online. The state partners with Safe Kids Worldwide, which aims to educate parents on how to protect their kiddos when they surf the web.
What Makes Pennsylvania Safe For Kids Online?
Cyberbullying and Sexting Laws
Like many states in our top ten, Pennsylvania is among the ranks of those with twelve laws against cyberbullying and sexting.
Internet Crimes Against Children
Thirty-one children out of 100,000 fall victim to internet crimes against children in PA each year. While not perfect, it’s still comparatively lower than most states.
There were fifty-six victims of malware in Pennsylvania last year, which although isn’t perfect, is still relatively low.
Internet Service Providers analyzed four data points to determine how safe a state is for kids online: internet crimes against children (40%), internet crime victims (25%), cyberbullying and sexting laws (25%), and malware crime victims (10%).
We used the Federal Bureau of Investigation Internet Crime Complaint Center to obtain information by state on internet crimes against children, internet crimes victims, and malware crime victims.
We used United States Census Data to compare the above to each state’s population under twenty-years-old.
