Take Advantage of CenturyLink Modems with Built-In Wi-Fi

Once upon a time, consumers had to invest in both a modem, or a device that modulates internet signals between the wider network and the home, and a router, or a wireless broadcaster. Now, most modems come with built-in Wi-Fi capabilities, meaning your modem doubles as a router.

Not every router/modem combo is compatible with CenturyLink. If you’re planning to buy your own modem, make sure you choose from the makes and models listed below. Alternatively, rent a modem/router combo from CenturyLink for a monthly fee to ensure you get a CenturyLink-approved device.

Wireless Support and FAQs

  • How Do I Change My CenturyLink Wi-Fi Password?
  • How Do I Reset my Modem?

Your Wi-Fi network and modem come with their own name and password. Once you’ve activated your CenturyLink internet, change the Wi-Fi password to something easy for you to remember with the following steps:

  1. Check the front or underside of your modem for its make and model.
  2. Look up instructions for changing your Wi-Fi password on the modem maker’s website.

If your Wi-Fi is lagging or you’re unable to connect to the internet, you can try resetting your modem with these steps:

  1. Find the reset button, usually located on the back of the modem.
  2. Using a pencil or pen tip, gently press the small button.
  3. Hold the reset button down until the red and green lights on the front of your modem start flashing.
  4. After five or so minutes, the “internet” button on the front of the modem should flash green.
  5. Try reconnecting to the internet on your phone or computer.
  6. Reenter any account information you’re prompted to when you connect, such as the Wi-Fi password.
